Feeding America.

This morning I went to  one of Feeding America food truck to receive some food. I go to the these locations at times to help keep my food supplies full. My Bridge card for food does not provide enough. The people I meet and talk to are people that relate to me about the problems they are faced with. The hunger and lack of assistance to receive Food Satamps from the State. Many make just enough income that they receive little or no funding from the State's food assistance program.
So they resort to the food truck provided by FeedingAmerica. http://www.feedingameica.org/
The truck do provide food! But is it enough? I noticed that that there are no can items, such as canned soups, vegetables nor meat. Bread, cakes and yogurt can not satisfy the needs for groceries! Regualr bags of groceries that they need!
Our Food Pantries are taxed! And many have already had their limit for the month. They need more! How do we supply the Food trucks with more than just yogurt, cakes, cookies and bread?
The major West Michigan stores could donate some canned goods. So that the families can make healthy meals from the food they receive from Feeding America, instead of left-over foods that are provided.
We need to show these families how to grow some vegetables at home in a small garden plot. This would provide fresh vegetables. The Food Stamp program the State of Michigan has allows the families to buy vegetable seeds and plants to grow their own vegetables. We just need to show them how to create a garden plot and to plant the seeds and plants!
I am going to plant a bigger garden this year so that I will be able to provide some fresh vegetables to others for free, along with the vegetables I sell at my veggie stand. I can not do it alone! My brother will be apart of it , along with my nephew. This still is not enough! I hope other home gardeners will join me, along with the farmers of the State of Michigan to provide to others and to the Feedingamerica trucks of Michigan.
